CORE CURRICULUM

To meet their academic needs, students in particular colleges and/or departments may be limited in which courses they use to satisfy core curriculum requirements. Students should consult with their advisors for information about specific college or departmental requirements in these areas. University Core A: Core Foundations (12 hours)

CORE 101. Essentials of Written and Oral Communication*

CORE 102. Advanced Written and Oral Communication*

CORE 201. Topics in Written and Oral Communication

CORE 202. Ethical Topics in Written and Oral Communication

*CORE 103.  Written and Oral Communication—Honors will replace CORE 101 and CORE 102 for those new students in the RU Honors Academy whose backgrounds and competence indicate that they are prepared for this course.

University Core B: Core Skills & Knowledge (16 hours)

Courses must be from different disciplines

Select one course from Mathematical Sciences (3 hours)

Select one course from Natural Sciences (4 hours)

Select one course from Humanities (3 hours)

Select one course from Visual and Performing Arts (3 hours)

One course in Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)

College Core A: National & International Perspectives (6 hours)

Courses must be from different disciplines

Select one course from U. S. Perspectives  (3 hours)

Select one course from Global Perspectives (3 hours)

College Core B: Supporting Skills & Knowledge (9-11 hours)

Select an additional course in Mathematical or Natural Sciences (3 or 4 hours)

Select an additional course in Humanities, Visual & Performing Arts, or Foreign Languages (3 or 4 hours)

Select an additional course in Social & Behavioral Sciences or Health & Wellness (3 hours)

Note: Students can use only one course with their major prefix to fulfill core curriculum requirements. Courses listed in multiple areas can only be used to fulfill a single area requirement.
